Plumes in Gulf Because of COREXIT

I found this article online and pass it on to you, some very scary stuff.

"....Scientists on a research ship in the gulf are discovering huge underwater oil plumes up to 10 miles long... One plume was 10 miles long, three miles wide, and 300 feet thick."

Aloha kaua, "one plume", and who knows how many plumes there are. An oil plume is described on Wikipedia as follows:

"The Deepwater Horizon oil spill, also called the BP Oil Spill, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill or the Macondo blowout,[3][4][5][6] is a massive ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, now considered the largest offshore spill in U.S. history.[7] The spill stems from a sea floor oil gusher that started with an oil well blowout on April 20, 2010. The blowout caused a catastrophic explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil drilling platform that was situated about 40 miles (64 km) southeast of the Louisiana coast in the Macondo Prospect oil field. The explosion killed 11 platform workers and injured 17 others; another 98 people survived without serious physical injury.[8]

The gusher originates from a deepwater oil well 5,000 feet (1,500 m) below the ocean surface. Estimates of the amount of oil being discharged range from BP's current estimate of over 5,000 barrels (210,000 US gallons; 790,000 litres) to as much as 100,000 barrels (4,200,000 US gallons; 16,000,000 litres) of crude oil per day. The exact spill flow rate is uncertain – in part because BP has refused to allow independent scientists to perform accurate measurements – and is a matter of ongoing debate.[9] In addition, the proportion of natural gas in the mixture is not known. The resulting oil slick covers a surface area of at least 2,500 square miles (6,500 km2), with the exact size and location of the slick fluctuating from day to day depending on weather conditions.[10] Scientists have also discovered immense underwater plumes of oil not visible from the surface.[9]

The preliminary best estimate that was released on May 27 by the semi-official Flow Rate Technical Group put the volume of oil flowing from the blown-out well at 12,000 to 19,000 barrels (500,000 to 800,000 US gallons; 1,900,000 to 3,000,000 litres) per day, which had amounted to between 440,000 and 700,000 barrels (18,000,000 and 29,000,000 US gallons; 70,000,000 and 111,000,000 litres) as of that date.[11] Based on those figures, the Deepwater Horizon spill is believed to have surpassed the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill as the largest ever in U.S. territorial waters; however, it is still outranked in the larger Gulf of Mexico by the 1979 Ixtoc I oil spill.

Experts fear that due to factors such as petroleum toxicity and oxygen depletion, the spill will result in an environmental disaster, damaging the Gulf of Mexico fishing industry, the Gulf Coast tourism industry, and the habitat of hundreds of bird species.[12][13] Crews are working to block off bays and estuaries, using anchored barriers, floating containment booms, and sand-filled barricades along shorelines. There are a variety of ongoing efforts, both short and long term, to contain the leak and stop spilling additional oil into the Gulf.

BP (formerly British Petroleum) is the operator and principal developer of the Macondo Prospect, which was thought to hold as much as 50 million barrels (7.9×10^6 m3) of oil prior to the blowout (by BP's own estimate).[14] The Deepwater Horizon drilling platform had been leased by BP from its owner, Transocean Ltd.[15] The U.S. Government has named BP as the responsible party in the incident, and officials have said the company will be held accountable for all cleanup costs resulting from the oil spill.[16][17] BP has accepted responsibility for the oil spill and the cleanup costs, but indicated they were not at fault because the platform was run by Transocean personnel.[18] The Deepwater Horizon blowout is the third serious incident at a BP-operated site in the United States in the last five years, following the Texas City Refinery explosion in 2005 and the Prudhoe Bay oil spill in 2006. These previous incidents, attributed to lapses in safety and maintenance, have contributed to the damage to BP's reputation and market valuation since the spill.[19][20] "

Underwater oil plumes

"University of California Berkeley engineering professor Robert Bea argued there was "an equal amount that could be subsurface", subsurface oil being "near impossible to track".[101] On May 13, tarballs began washing up on the shores of three Louisiana parishes and were possibly originating from the oil leak.[102] A couple days later, tarballs began washing up on beaches in Key West, Florida.[103] On May 15, researchers from the University of Southern Mississippi, aboard the research vessel RV Pelican, identified oil plumes in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, including one as large as 10 miles (16 km) long, 3 miles (4.8 km) wide and 300 feet (91 m) thick in spots. The shallowest oil plume the group detected was at about 2,300 feet (700 m), while the deepest was near the seafloor at about 4,200 feet (1,300 m). Other researchers from the University of Georgia have found that the oil may occupy multiple layers. The undetermined amount of hydrocarbons in these underwater plumes may explain why satellite images of the ocean surface have calculated a flow rate of only 5,000 barrels (210,000 US gal) a day, whereas studies of video of the gushing oil well have variously calculated that it could be flowing at a rate of 25,000–80,000 barrels (1,100,000–3,400,000 USgal) a day.[9] On May 27, marine scientists discovered a second oil plume, stretching 22 miles (35 km) from the leaking wellhead toward Mobile Bay, Alabama. The oil has dissolved into the water and is no longer visible, and researchers say they are worried these undersea plumes may be the result of the use of chemical dispersants to break up the oil ." [104]

"Marine biologist Rick Steiner said that the likelihood of extensive undersea plumes of oil droplets should have been anticipated from the moment the spill began, given that such an effect from deepwater blowouts had been predicted in the scientific literature for more than a decade and had been confirmed in a test off the coast of Norway. He criticized the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for not setting up an extensive sampling program to map and characterize the plumes in the first days of the spill." [105]

"The Gulf Stream, together with its northern extension towards Europe, the North Atlantic Drift, is a powerful, warm, and swift Atlantic ocean current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico, exits through the Strait of Florida, and follows the eastern coastlines of the United States and Newfoundland before crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The process of western intensification causes the Gulf Stream to be a northward accelerating current offshore the east coast of North America. At about 40°0′N 30°0′W / 40°N 30°W / 40; -30, it splits in two, with the northern stream crossing to northern Europe and the southern stream recirculating off West Africa. The Gulf Stream influences the climate of the east coast of North America from Florida to Newfoundland, and the west coast of Europe. Although there has been recent debate, there is consensus that the climate of Western Europe and Northern Europe is warmer than it would otherwise be due to the North Atlantic drift, one of the branches from the tail of the Gulf Stream. It is part of the North Atlantic Subtropical Gyre. Its presence has led to the development of strong cyclones of all types, both within the atmosphere and within the ocean."

To everyone reading this as I speak from my na'au, from the depths of my heart and voice my concerns, we are all connected, all races, all countries, all cultures of every nation on every continent and island and atoll, and for those of us here on the Hawaiian islands, we may be geographically separated by the vast, deep and beautiful expansive Pacific Ocean, but it is only a matter of time when we will see the devastating negative impact here as well. Thank God the Humpback Whales have already migrated back to Alaska waters to their summer home. How could we send a message to the magnificent Whales to protect themselves when we don't speak the same language?

A global ecological disaster is an inadequate description for this tragedy. It is quite literally like the end of the world as we know it today and I am filled with a formidable sense of dread and deep foreboding for what may happen to our planet. Our planet is our only home in this universe. And if something happens to destroy our planet, we literally have no where to go. We cannot escape the inevitable destruction and how can we possibly save our precious animals, plant life and sea creatures?

The far reaching devastating effects, damage and loss of human life as well of thousands of waterfowl, sea creatures, marine invertebrates, bivalves, aquatic biota and many forms of life are already irreversible as this crude oil is literally choking the planet. Who would have ever guessed that these companies cannot stop this oil from poisoning our precious oceans and creating such an enduring destructive force on our wildlife, our precious sea creatures and coastal regions, marsh, shore and wetlands, eventually affecting the rivers, deltas and fresh water streams as well for generations to come.

The worst is yet to come and it is already so monumentally terrible and destructive it is beyond comprehension.

I am absolutely stunned that it hasn't be stopped and continues to gush crude oil into our oceans day by day minute by minute second by second, it is so horrific a thought to consider. The NASA Terra Satellite image on Wikipedia and the newscasts online of the spreading sense of doom and despair in the gulf is terrifying and makes me weep.

"Tragic loss of deep sea life"...
It is beyond tragic, it is beyond despair and impossible for me to wrap my mind around the devastation they have caused with their negligence. This is not going to be isolated within the Gulf of Mexico. It will affect all the surrounding countries as well as the Atlantic and as it moves through the gulf streams it will devastate the entire planet, and if there is a hurricane as we enter the annual season, there will be no hope. It is like an enormous slap in the face to our precious planet earth.

"In an age when we are often preoccupied with me and what is mine, kuleana is one of the most important words in the world.

We are often told that rights come with certain responsibilities. Kuleana reminds us that these are, in fact, one and the same. A right is a responsibility. An obligation is a privilege.

When we neglect our kuleana — when we covet our rights and property while ignoring our responsibilities and concerns — bad things happen."

BP=Lies and Corruption

BP has lied to U.S. from the begining. We did not see the oil leak from the begining, although BP had a camera down there. Bp was not forthcoming about the oil being released and lied about it saying it was only 5,000 gal. per day and now they are looking at upwards of 70,000 gal per day.Tiny Tony Hayward said, "very modest impact on environment" ... See Morethis was the first lie. Now Tiny Tony Hayward knows he was caught in that lie. Then because of the lie about the amount of oil, Lisa P Jackson, head of EPA authorized the dispersant or as it is better known..TOXIC SOUP..has made this oil spill worse. The dispersant was to be used because of the 5,000 gal not in the 70,000 oil being currently spilled.BP INCREASED the amount of dispersant or TOXIC SOUP and the dispersant is being discovered to be 4X as toxic as the oil itself. BP is using this dispersant to MASK the effects of this horrific oilspill, because the dispersant causes the oil to become tiny droplets and sink into the ocean. There has been a large plume covering upwards to 12 feet in the ocean currently heading to MOBILE BAY that was discovered by scientists with University of Florida. BP does not want to stop dispersant because it is aiding them in HIDING the effect of the oil in the ocean. The dispersant needs to be completely stopped, there has been upward of 850,000 gallons released into the gulf and is being compared to anti-freeze in TOXICITY. BP is now fighting to keep putting dispersant into ocean as we speak. I am horriied that the oil tankers have not been employed to suck up the oil, this could have been done weeks ago and stopped much of what is happening now on LA coast. All that is happening is a bunch of small boats around the rig SKIMMING bits of the oil and the fires that were going on to burn it off actually only amounted to about 2% of the oil on the ocean. The small boats should be taken off and supertankers put out there to sux up the oil on the water NOW. QUIT MAKING EXCUSES, QUIT WITH THE RED TAPE AND GET THE OIL OUT OF THE OCEAN, STOP THE LEAK, OBAMA NEEDS TO GIVE LA WHAT THEY WANT WHICH IS TO BE ABLE TO DO WHAT THEY NEED RIGHT NOW TODAY AND PRESIDENT OBAMA NEEDS TO GIVE THE OK FOR BILLY NUNGESSER TO DO WHAT HE NEEDS TO DO AND THE GOVENOR OF LA. THIS SPILL HAS NOW SURPASSED THE EXXON VALDEEZ AND WE NEED TO PRAY FOR A MIRACLE THAT OBAMA IS GOING TO STEP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE CHARGE OF BP AND NOT LET BP TAKE CHARGE OF THE FEDERAL GOV. IT IS NOT BPS OCEAN, IT IS NOT BPS BEACHES, IT IS NOT BPS MARSHES, BPS OIL IS TRESPASSING ON OUR WATERS, OUR BEACHES, OUR MARSHES, OUR WILDLIFE, THEY NEED TO BE CRIMINALLY CHARGED FOR THIS INCIDENT, MOVE OUT OF THE WAY BP CAUSE YOU ARE GOING DOWN...

Florida Native here

I am so sad about this oilspill. I am a native of Florida, born and raised here and have lived here practically all my life. I left when I was younger but didn't stay gone long and came back and will never leave again.
I am so sad about the animals/mammals/birds and every other living being that is being affected by this horrible oilspill, gusher, whatever you want to call it happening.
I cannot look at the pictures or the videos about this event because my heart cannot handle it. I cry at the pelicans covered with oil. We had a pelican here that was found oiled that died. These innocent animals of the sea and the birds did nothing to deserve this torture at the hands of man, specifically BP.
This event happened because of greed and negligence. Why the dependence on oil? Why can't we live greener lifestyles? Must our whole eco-system crash because of greed? Must our whole Gulf of Mexico suffer because of oil? Must our whole eco-system die because of our selfishness? I myself only drive my car about 4-6 times a month and that is just to get groceries in large amounts. That is it. I have been trying to sell my car because of its gas usage but so far have been unable to.
Louisiania is suffering right now. Parish President Billy Nungesser pleaded on CNN for help to block the oil from further invading his marshes. Why hasn't anyone listened? I could feel his heart breaking as he was speaking on the news. He doesn't care about what others think, all he cares about is the marshes. He is showing the negligence of BP not doing all they can do to stop the oil. All BP is doing is cleaning off a few birds, cleaning up a few beaches where the oil has already impacted but BP IS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO PREVENT THE OIL FROM COMING ON THE SHORES OR MARSHES. Go to CNN and watch his video. Feel his pain. Help him in any way you can. We as Americans have the ability to make our voice known. We as Americans have the ability to help Louisiana. Go to Louisiana, call Billy Nungesser, get on his facebook page and tell him what you can do to help!
We must as a nation under God help our environment. If BP is going to try and ruin our beautiful pristine Gulf than we as Americans must battle BP and take the matter in our own hands. I have signed a petition to stop any further dealings from our Government with BP. Will you do the same? You can find me on facebook and you can find me on twitter under destingirl54. Add me as friend, follow me on twitter and lets do as a nation what we can do to battle the evil named BP.
It is for the dolphins, the sea turtles, the pelicans, the sea gulls, the many fish, and many others I haven't listed. It is for our eco-system.
Signed,
Florida native

The Pelican

Someone found a pelican today
Their feathers were covered they say
By a petroleum product and then
They are trying to nurse him back to health again

The Coast Guard Admiral answered questions about
Alot of stuff about oil in the South
She did her best to answer again
What is happening to our ocean my friends

Why does greed have to turn into oil
Why does this oil have to spew on the ocean floor
Why is the love of money the root of evil
This is not answered easily but listen people

There is evil in the world today
Why does the ocean have to pay
What about the animals in the sea
I am just one person but you must listen BP

The ocean is where our eco-system lives
There are many fish that swim there and exist
Will they be saved, what about the wildlife?
For all the animals, the mammals in the sea
Lets pray for our ocean, are you listening BP?

Dear God

Dear God

I am writing this letter to you

I have been praying as you know for ocean blue

The ocean is a place of rest

For me its a place I like the best

To the mammals in the sea it is their home

This is the place they like to roam

What happens when the oil invades

Please Lord protect the eggs they have laid

God I am asking you again for ocean blue

The Gulf needs a miracle only you can do

Intervene for the Dolphins and the fish

Don't forget the whales for them I wish

Their lives to be pain free and full of life

I do not want them to die Lord protect them twice

Guide them safely away from harm always

Do not allow them to breathe this disgusting waste

We need to protect our ocean blue

So dear God, I think of you

Speak to the mammals in the sea

Show them the safest place to be

I love you Lord and to you I pray

Do not forget ocean blue today

Always protect the mammals in the sea

Even from a company that is called BP

In Mourning

ok so I am really sad about those dolphins that they found deceased on Alabama shores because of this horrible oilspill and I do believe they went to heaven. I do believe that all animals go to heaven because God created them. I just hope they didn't suffer too much. To all the mammals in the sea, out in the Gulf Coast, I am praying for you and for this horrible leak to be stopped.

The Love of Oil..a poem

Written on May 7, 2010

The Love of Oil

Oil is gushing from a deep well in the ocean
This oil is polluting our sea
The oil drll already killed 11 men in motion
What about the animals feeling this dark poisionous tea

The love of oil equals greed all around
What about the poor animals that suffer
What happened to our environment is it bound?
Lets stop this oilspill or our life will be tougher

Is oil the answer to our life today
Will the animals in the ocean have to pay
For they swim and prance with glee
Then their hearts stop and what we will see

Once we know that we cannot eat the fish
It is contaminated with oil- not what we wish
The seagulls eat from the gulf no more
We will remember a beach but now folklore

A white pristine paradise that lapped up on shore
Will it turn black and oily and become white no more?
Are we ignorant to what life means today
Wake up people or to oil you will pay

Poem-Mourning of the Ocean

Sadness creeps into my heart because of ocean blue
I walked the beach today and thought of you
The sea turtles that were found on shore
Their hearts stopped beating, they beat no more

Greed is what killed these rare sea beasts
BP company is one I like the very least
These turtles were free they were alive and vibrant
Now their dead on beaches their swimming is silent

BP cared nothing but for oil you see
The love of money is killing the sea
We must stop this greed today
Or more animals on the beach will lay

Tears ran down my cheeks
When I heard of the horrible oil spill that is a leak
This leak is coming from the earth today
BP caused this terror and now they will pay

The animals in the ocean blue only wanted to live and play
Now they are dying a most horrible way
The company BP does not care I say
They must be punished severely today

The animals cannot fight the oil you see
They breathe water and air and now they bleed
Bp caused this terror in ocean blue
The animals are suffering because of you

Stop the greed of oil and drills
No amount of money is worth these kills
We must find a more sensitive way
to care for the animals this I pray..

Lier

ok i just found out the good news i heard yesterday was a lie the BP spokesman lied and the main BP chairman told it over the news. why did he lie? now i feel so heartbroken and afraid of this horrible spill and mourning the loss of those poor sea turtles, BP are murderers thats what they are this company should be charged with murder of all these innocent animals of the Gulf. God help me believe that everything is gonna be alright because right now I am terrified.

Peace

Have you ever felt peace in the midst of the storm? Maybe something horrible was going on in your life or to someone you know but you just felt peace? This has happened to me before. Unfort. not that many times but when these horrible things were happening I had peace. These were situations of sickness with people I was very close to. These people were dying. This was a definite storm but God gave me peace and these people did not die but they lived. God is so good. He is so good. I know sometimes God decides to take people to heaven but sometimes they live and I am so happy to know of some that I knew personally that didn't die but lived when the doctors said they would die. I love miracles. I have seen miracles.

Now to the oilspill. I cried for 3 days because of this oilspill. I prayed and I cried. I cried out to God for a miracle. I knew in my spirit how horrible it was without listening to the news, God gave me that knowing but he also gave me the ablilty to pray and pray I did. I am still praying. But, now I feel peace. I felt the peace first last night. I just knew it was going to get better. Then I saw the good news on the news today about them stopping much of the flow of oil and the good news that the rain is helping the impact on the environment. God is moving! Do not give up hope. The next good news we will hear is that the seal is completely stopped and no more flow of oil. Help me pray for the next miracle. Help me pray for the animals in the Gulfcoast. Do you believe in miracles? Have you seen a miracle? I have seen many and I know God will begin to show me many miracles in the days to come regarding this oilspill.
Thankyou Lord Jesus for making a way where there is no way, thankyou Father God for shifting the winds away from the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Thankyou Father God for protecting our ocean. Thankyou father God for the oil leak stopping. I give you praise for this miracle in the name of Jesus which is above every name. I thankyou God that nothing is too hard for you and to move on our Gulf. In Jesus name I pray..amen
peace.

Amy

Today is May 3 and I wake up with a shaking in my spirit. I feel a immense sadness in my heart. I cannot stop thinking of the poor wildlife in our Gulf suffering because of this horrible oil leak and someone on facebook asked me to document this with pictures and I do not know if I can handle taking pictures of horrible things.

I pray to you God right now for help. I pray to you God to perform a miracle in our Gulf. I know you are not far away from us right now Lord Jesus but you are an ever present help in trouble. We are relying on your assistance right now Lord Jesus. Come to our rescue. Shift the winds away from the Gulfcoast, away from my beautiful pristine beaches. Protect the wildlife. In Jesus name I pray.

Amen

First day of this blog about oilspill

Today is the first day I am blogging on the oilspill. Today is May 2 and it is sunday 2010. The oil explosion happened on April 20, 2010.

When the explosion happened out in the Gulf I knew it was bad. I don't know if you remember the news at that time, they said nothing about any oil leaking. they just said there was an explosion and people died.

So now everyone is really freaking out because of this oil leaking into the ocean. It is so horrible and I have been praying almost harder than I have ever prayed.

Lets get something straight here, I do believe in miracles I have seen real miracles things you can't explain by human logic so I know miracles can happen. I am praying for one now.

I will go to beach daily and take photos of what I see at my beach, i live right at the beach and I talked to a lifeguard today and he said he knew nothing about what they were doing in our county which is Okaloosa County and Im thinking why not? Why havent they started anything in our county?

I have signed up through Audubon to help clean the birds and they will contact me when/if they need me.

I am including some pics that I took today and yesterday.

peace

Amy
